Update since this article came out: Picker Joe’s now offers World Famous Leopold’s Ice Cream at our Vintage Coffee & Soda Shop!
Step back in time and enjoy a classic soda fountain experience at Picker Joe’s new Coffee and Vintage Soda Shop in Savannah. Antique mall Picker Joe’s now houses a mid-century soda bar, originally from a 1950s Poseyville, Indiana movie theater. Visitors can relish in the nostalgia of a bygone era while sipping on specialty coffees, teas, sodas, and milkshakes.
Picker Joe’s owner Jim Plumlee and team member Tom McCormick discovered the soda bar when visiting collector John Burke in Indiana. They were so taken by the collection that they rented a 30-foot U-Haul truck to bring the counter, back wall, signs, lights, stools, soda machines, and vintage Coke memorabilia back to Savannah.
The first phase of the project is nearly complete, with customers already enjoying the new offerings. Local businesses such as Savannah Coffee Roasters and Southern Swiss Dairy are providing the coffee and ice cream. The second phase will expand the soda bar area with additional seating, creating an authentic Coca-Cola diner atmosphere.
The new attraction has prompted vendors to bring in more Coca-Cola collectibles, with some even donating vintage items to enhance the ambiance. The addition has drawn in new customers, particularly younger patrons excited about the coffee shop. A grand opening is planned for early summer, marking a dream come true for Plumlee, who has a passion for the past.
